Australian CommonwealthThe first Australian Commonwealth stamps were issued in 1913 - almost exactly 12 years after federation. The Kangaroo and Map stamps were issued in denominations from ½d to £2 with the top values being Bi-coloured. These are very attractive and are widely collected. They are seen; by many as the "blue-chip" Australian Commonwealth stamps. With the lower denominations starting from a few dollars in mint condition, the higher denominations are most sought after and are highly valued.
The King George Fifth head issues range in denomination from ½d to 1/4d. As they were on issue during the first world war and beyond, they were issued on paper in four different watermarks, different shades and perforations. They have generated much interest for generations and this makes them perhaps the most widely studied stamps of Australia. Some of our material available:
